2021 Tenuta Carleone Uno Toscana IGT
VINEYARD: Sean believes in a minimal approach to farming and wine making. All the vineyards are farmed organically or are in the conversion process. Most of the vineyards are in Radda in Chianti, and a small parcel in Gaiole in Chianti. The sites vary in elevation from 1,500 to 2,500 ft. The parcels are a mix of limestone, sandstone, and compacted shale. Some vines were planted in the 1970’s, with others more recently established or replanted. Each site is vinified and aged separately before the final blend is made Sean’s biggest work is to find old vineyards and try to recover them, because he find the real value in deeper roots and bigger feeling with the native land.
WINEMAKING: Uno comes from only the Radda parcels and is in Sean's eyes the best expression of the terroir of the area. No commercial yeasts or additives are used during winemaking and they eschew any fining or filtration. 100% Sangiovese, long maceration times, and the use of cement highlight Sean's style. His wines represent a more modern side of Chianti that has earned him the respect of even the most traditional of critics in Italy.
