2018 Paolo Bea Rosso Riserva Pipparello
Pipparello is a vineyard planted to 60% Sangiovese, 25% Montepulciano, and 15% Sagrantino on clay and gravel soils at 1,300 feet elevation. Maceration lasts as long as 50 days on the skins. The wine ages in stainless steel for one year then in large old oak cask for two more years.
Paolo Bea leads the discussion on Italy's soulful, magically unique wines. Their family roots in Umbria's Montefalco region stretch back to the 16th century, where they have livestock, vegetables, and fruits. Only five of their fifteen hectares are devoted to vines.
