Tasting Notes

Aromas of yellow apple, citrus peel, and subtle floral notes lead the nose. The palate is dry and focused, with bright acidity, saline minerality, and layered stone fruit. Chalky texture and mineral tension carry through a long, precise finish.

Wine Details / Description

Koehler Ruprecht is one of Germany’s most historic Riesling estates, established in the 1700s and renowned for its uncompromising, traditional approach. Located in Kallstadt in the Pfalz, the estate’s holdings in the Saumagen vineyard are among the most celebrated in the region.

The Saumagen site is defined by pure chalk and calcareous bedrock, with cooler soils and higher elevation that allow for extended ripening and complex flavor development. The 2021 Kabinett Trocken is hand-harvested, whole bunch pressed, and fermented with indigenous yeasts in large neutral oak casks. The wine rests on its lees for approximately eight months, developing texture and depth without losing precision.

The result is a dry Riesling of remarkable structure and energy, combining concentration, mineral drive, and understated power. While approachable now, this wine rewards time in the cellar.
